Ideas...

It's challenging to get moving.

I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir.

Yet, it's still a push even though I know it's coming.

I'm pretty sure that my gym has figured out the way to get me in more. Invite the toddler to have a grand time. They had her hook, line and sinker with the purple balloon.

She's been playing with it since Tuesday. :)

Alright... here are the ideas:

- 30 miles in 30 days Sounds cool right..except I don't run...

- Meatless March: this is apparently so common. There isn't just one site devoted to it. I am kind of digging this one because I don't like cooking meat at home. I'm okay with eating it, but I don't like to have to handle/ smell it.

- H2O Boost. I'm not a water person. I really don't like it but it's definitely something I need. I see it in my skin and feel it in my hair... my cells are calling out for it.

- Menu Plan: I think it's just necessary at this point knowing just how busy my days are about to become.

What do you do to challenge yourself to do the healthy things? Make the good choices more interesting?

  1. Try cutting starchy carbs for a month. That means no pasta, potatoes, chips, bread, etc. It's difficult but made a big difference for me!

  2. C25k is a great way to get into running. If you don't run at all, 30 miles in 30 days is probably a mistake.

  3. @John right there you've named two of my favorite foods (pasta and bread). I'm not sure I could cope without them. Considering my love of them, probably some scaling back or adjustment is in order.

    @Random guy, thanks.

  4. First off props for posting this up and sharing the difficulty most of us have with getting off of our asses and engaging in we want and know we should be doing.

Here are some tips from personal experiences which will hopefully be of some help:

For the hydration: I've had this problem for a long time too and just managed to break it about a month ago. What i discovered wasn't that i had any problem with drinking water but simply that i was too damn lazy to get up and go refill that cup or undersized bottle of mine every 30 minutes. So instead i bought a gallon bottle of water, which i now keep on my desk, and whenever i find myself thinking "it's about time a drank some water," there it is sitting conveniently on my desk, plump and full with water. Obviously you don't have to go so extreme with the container size here, but something like a good sized nalgene (32oz. perhaps) will do wonders for your hydration deprivation.

As for the 30 miles in 30 days: This can be tough since you "don't run." What could make this process easier, however, and ensure that you don't slack after a couple days is if you have a friend, spouse, or gym partner to run with so that there is someone there keeping you to your plan and forcing you through the runs on drowsy days.

For eating/menu changing: What i find helpful is that when approaching food choices asking myself, "Will this food help me get that toned, lean body i want?" And If no, then i don't eat it.

One more thing: When not motivated try to visualize and imagine how good, satisfied, proud it will feel to do whatever it is you are toiling over, instead of focusing on how bad you feel if you don't do it. This has worked well for me, when focusing on the negatives to get motivated i would automatically find myself in a lower mood.

Hopefully some of this has/will be useful.

Best of wishes to you and your craving satiating.

    Then walk. :)

Don't rely on someone else, someone else will fail you. Then you may blame them. Don't bother. Rely on yourself, then if you fail you only have yourself to blame. And if you do fail, we all fail... the really important thing, try again. Just keep trying again. Do not stop trying. You can do this.

Even if you take it really slow and even if you live up north and have to bundle up (for now). Walk. Even if it takes you 30 minutes to walk a mile, what else were you going to do for 30 minutes? Sit on the couch and watch some mind-numbing TV show that only makes you laugh twice? Walk.

What about your child, what type of example are you setting for her. Bundle her up and take her for a walk. She will love it and it will give you both a chance to explore the world and give you a chance to teach her as only a mother can.

It may only be one thing, but it is something. Walk.

When you come back in from the biting cold, you will feel better about yourself. You are in the small minority of the people that actually went out and did something good for them self. You took the hard route, you shunned the easy. You took the road less traveled... and that my friend will make all the difference if you just keep doing it.

Edited to add: I would rather not "sign in" to post on her blog so I am leaving this here.
